Lifestones (or Life Stones, often abbreviated to LS) are magical devices that characters can use to set their resurection point. When a character dies, they will return to the last lifestone they attuned to. Characters can also use Item Enchantment to tie to a lifestone, and to recall to both their tied lifestone and their attuned lifestone. Lifestones appear as blue dots on the radar.
Using a Lifestone
In order to attune to a lifestone, you simply use it or double click on it. An animation occurs and half of your stamina is drained.
Characters with Item Enchantment can use the spell Lifestone Tie to tie to a lifestone. This tie is only used for the purpose of recalling to said lifestone, and is seperate from attuning.
Returning to Lifestones
When a character dies they will return to the last lifestone they attuned to. You can intentionally kill yourself using the /die command. This plays a long animation, and then you die. For more information on this topic see Death.
Any character is allowed to use the /lifestone (or /ls) command to recall to their attuned lifestone. This recall uses a long animation similar to the house recall commands. Unlike the /die command, this does not kill you, so you do not drop items, incur a vitae penalty, or increase your death count.
A Character with Item Enchantment can recall to their tied lifestone using the Lifestone Recall spell. They can also recall to their attuned lifeston using the Lifestone Sending spell.
Lore
Lifestones were once used as beacons for portal travel by Asheron's people, the Yalaini. After the Yalaini lost their battle to the Olthoi Asheron sent his people into stasis in portal space. After the death of The One Queen Asheron altered the lifestones to be points of resurrection, and they began to grow out of the ground. When Isparians die, they lose a portion of their life force in the form of a Vitae Penalty. This vitae goes to the Yalaini trapped in portal space to keep them alive.
When the stones first began growing they worked imperfectly, causing the corpses of the dead to reanimate as Undead.
Years later, during the A Perfect Paradox event, Nuhmudira used her arcane knowledge to create lifestone design of her own. This was done out of Nuhmidira's distrust of Asheron and the Empyreans. Besides their different appearance (see the image on the right above) her lifestones do not help the Yalaini trapped in portal space but they still extract vitae of course. There are very few of the Nuhmudira's lifestones around Dereth.
