Asheron's Call·Private server·Online around the clock

Dereth, the way you remember it.

A private Asheron's Call world on retail rules — the game as it shipped, running on a server that looks after itself: fair-play enforcement, half-hourly backups, a wiki with every quest and item, and your own copies of the dungeons.

Get DrakLauncher

You need a Windows PC with Asheron's Call already installed. Download DrakLauncher, unzip it anywhere, and run acdream-launcher.exe — on first run it finds your install and sets Aelrynth up from it, keeping this server's data files separate from every other server you play, so there's nothing to configure. Keep the two files together in the folder. Windows will warn about an unknown publisher: choose More info → Run anyway. Close any running client before that first setup. No copy of the game yet? Ask Tom.

Download DrakLauncher ↓

Point it at the server

In a launcher (DrakLauncher, ThwargLauncher or similar), add a server with the address and port above. Launching the game directly is a command line:

acclient.exe -h 144.217.84.148:9020 -a YOURNAME -v YOURPASSWORD -rodat off

Roll a character

The first login with a new name and password creates that account. You'll land on an empty character screen — make one and you're in.

Every session after that: just launch the game. Nobody to text, nothing to start first.

What's different here

Aelrynth runs retail rules — the game as it was — with three additions, each with the command that goes with it. The full command reference is kept in step with the server.

Personal dungeons

Take the Hub of Awakening portal in Holtburg square: thirteen doors, easiest to hardest — the Citadel Below at level 15, the Matron Hives, Creepy Canyons, the Egg Orchards, Dark Design, the Paths of the Blind — each your own copy, nobody else's spawns, nobody else's competition. Each awakening makes the monsters in your copy 5% tougher and the kills 5% more rewarding, set when you enter. The retail hive and the retail Facility Hub are untouched. Dying inside costs no items and no coins.

/instancewhich copy you're in, and its difficulty tier

Awakening

The repeatable enlightenment. At your level cap, go back to level 1 with skills, attributes and unassigned XP reset as enlightenment resets them — keeping society, luminance, auras, titles, Radiance and every raise you've bought. Every awakening makes your dungeon copies 5% harder and 5% richer and raises your level cap by one: 275, then 276, then 277. Retail enlightenment stays exactly retail beside it.

/awakenwhat it is and whether you may
/awaken confirmdo it — no undoing

Awakened rewards

Loot in your scaled dungeon copies rolls richer and hits harder with every tier, and needs five fewer awakenings than the tier to wear — tradeable a little way down the ladder. Attuned quest items grow with the awakenings of whoever first earns them, without ceiling — re-run the quest after awakening and it comes back better. Every such item says so in its name.

/arthe terms, your count, and what the item you last appraised carries

Raises past the cap

Every point of experience also earns a point of Radiance, banked account-wide. Once a skill is maxed, spend it on one more skill point — priced along the retail curve continued 1:1, so the first raise costs what rank 209 would have and the curve is its own ceiling. Raises survive enlightenment and awakening.

Town invasions

Monsters besiege towns. The server is warned ten minutes ahead; then for twelve minutes bands of attackers close in from every side, more of them the more defenders there are, until their leader comes. Kill it within five minutes and everyone who fought earns a defender's bonus of experience. Towns get attackers that match their players — Holtburg, the first, is raided by drudges. Warnings post to Discord's #invasions.

A wider combat window

Retail decides every evade and resist inside about 73 skill points either way — past that a fight is over before it starts. Aelrynth's curve is gentler, and the chance to land is never below 5% or above 95%, for players and monsters alike.

Other projects

Player-side software written alongside the server — all MIT, all cloneable from this server. Source and build instructions →

DrakBot

A bot: buffing, fighting, looting, dungeon patrols, VTank-style metas and nav routes, loot profiles, a monster HUD, and a phone remote. Runs the Colosseum unattended; runs headless too. Written from scratch against the plugin contract.

git clone https://aelrynth.com/git/DrakBot.git

DrakMap

The floor plan of the dungeon you are in, north up, with you, hostiles, corpses, NPCs, portals, doors and lifestones over it. Wheel to zoom, drag to pan.

/drakmap toggleopen or close it

DrakBar

A strip of icon buttons, one per plugin — DrakBot, DrakMap, whatever answers its protocol — lit while that plugin's window is open. Click to toggle, right-click for the rest.

/drakbarshow, hide, lock, opacity

DrakRemote

An iPhone app that watches and drives your game clients through DrakBot's remote: vitals, buffs, inventory, meta state, a live view, floor plans, and a command line to the bot. On TestFlight while it is finished.

The record of every change

Changes to Dereth

Since 19 September 2026 the world runs retail rules, and the changes that once served a custom economy have been undone. Every change made to Dereth — and every reversal — is dated and explained here, so the record is complete.

Enforced by the server itself

House rules

Currency that's earned by playing only means something if one person can't quietly play as six. These limits are counted per internet connection, not per account, and the server applies them on its own — so they're worth knowing before you bump into one and think something's broken.

Share a house with another player? Tell Tom and he can lift the limits for your address.

Two characters online at once

Make as many characters and accounts as you like — there's no cap on either. Only two can be logged in at the same time. A third login drops the newest, saved properly on the way out.

One of them outside the Marketplace

The second can come along, but it stays in the Marketplace. Walk it out and it's sent straight back. Whichever character leaves first is the one that stays out.

Three accounts per connection

Enough for a household sharing a router; not enough to run a farm.

No swearing allegiance to yourself

Passing your own experience up through a second character of your own isn't allowed.

Chat

Heard in Discord too

General and Trade are relayed to the Aelrynth Discord, so an offer is seen by people who aren't logged in. Only those two channels — tells, allegiance and fellowship chat stay in the game. The bridge is one-way: Discord reads the game, but nothing typed there reaches it.

/generalRelayedServer-wide chat
/tradeRelayedBuying, selling, looking-for
@tell <name>A private message. Not relayed.
@whoWho else is online right now

Admin accountability

The admins are audited too

An economy built on earned currency only holds if nobody can quietly mint it. So the server audits its own admins, not just its players.

  • Every admin action that could create value is recorded — items created or deleted, objects given to players, bank balances adjusted, and any grant of experience or luminance.
  • Records go to an append-only log and are posted live to a Discord channel as they happen, so they can't be edited after the fact.
  • Admins are exempt from the two-character limit and nothing else. Every audit applies to them exactly as it does to you.

Before you message Tom

If something goes wrong

The game can't find the server

Check the address and port are exactly 144.217.84.148 and 9020. A stale entry from the old setup is the usual culprit — the server used to be on a 100.x address and that one is dead. If the numbers are right, open a command prompt and run ping 144.217.84.148. A reply means the server is reachable and the problem is in your client's settings.

Ping replies but the game still won't join

The server process may be down or restarting for an update. Give it two minutes, then message Tom — there's nothing to fix on your end.

It rejected my login right after I logged out

Normal. The server holds your session open for about a minute after you disconnect. Wait sixty seconds and try again.

My character got teleported to the Marketplace

Working as intended — you already have another character outside it. Log that one out and this one is free to leave.

I got logged out when my third character came on

Also intended. Two at a time. The newest login is the one dropped, and the character is saved on the way out — nothing is lost.

It won't create my new account

Three accounts per connection is the limit. Log in with one you already have, or ask Tom if you have a real reason for a fourth.

I mistyped my password and made a second account

Easily done, since any new username creates an account. Log in again with the spelling you meant — but the stray one counts toward your three, so ask Tom to clear it.
