What it is
RynthAi now knows the element of each weapon in your Items list, and it uses that to pick both the weapon and the spell. With the damage type left on Auto, it looks up the monster's weakness and wields your listed wand of that element. A wand always casts its own element, so a fire wand casts fire, never Blades. RynthAi only wields weapons that are in your Items list. Swaps happen one at a time, the server has to confirm each one, and the bot no longer flips back and forth between two weapons.
How to open it
You set this up in three RynthAi panels on the RynthCore bar:
- Items: your list of weapons and their elements.
- Monsters: the damage type for a monster (Auto, or a fixed element).
- Damage: an optional fixed weapon per monster, or a Default weapon.
The basics
1. List your weapons
- Select a weapon in your inventory.
- In the Items panel, under Weapons, click + Add Selected Weapon.
- The weapon appears in the list with its element. If the element isn't known yet, it shows Unknown.
- Repeat for every weapon or wand you want the bot to use.
Put your main weapon first. The first weapon in the list sets what kind of fighter you are: melee, missile or magic. A bow user with a buff wand listed won't be switched to magic, and a melee character won't be swapped to a wand.
2. How the element is found
RynthAi works out each listed weapon's element by itself, in this order:
- The weapon's damage type, once the weapon has been identified.
- The elemental glow on its icon. This is known straight away, even before an identify.
- A rending imbue, such as Fire Rending.
- Its name, whole words only. For example, Fire, Flame, Flaming or Fiery means Fire; Frost, Ice, Icy or Cold means Cold; Lightning, Electric or Shock means Lightning.
If a listed weapon hasn't been identified, RynthAi identifies it for you, one weapon at a time. It sends at most one request every 2 seconds and tries at most twice per weapon. It never does this while busy or in portal space.
Your choice wins. If you click a weapon's element in the Items panel and pick one yourself, RynthAi keeps your pick and never overwrites it. For a launcher (a bow, crossbow or atlatl), an element you set by hand also wins over the element of its ammunition.
3. Full weapon names
Weapons now show their full name, with the material in front, for example "Silver Wand" or "Black Garnet Orb". The weapon pickers on the Monsters and Damage panels also add the element, for example "Silver Wand (Fire)". This makes it easy to tell two wands of the same type apart.
How RynthAi picks the element and the wand
Damage type set to Auto (the usual setting)
The monster's weakness decides the wand:
- RynthAi looks up the monster's weakness. It has a built-in table of creature weaknesses, and it also uses what it has learned on the Damage panel.
- It goes through the elements from the one the monster is weakest to, downwards.
- At each step it looks for a weapon in your Items list with that element. For a wand, you also have to be able to cast that element.
- The first match wins. RynthAi wields that weapon and casts its element.
- If two elements are tied, it prefers the weapon already in your hand, so it doesn't swap for nothing. Next comes a weapon with a matching rending.
- If none of your listed weapons matches the monster's weaknesses, RynthAi keeps the weapon in hand.
If the weakness isn't known at all, it keeps the weapon in hand and uses that weapon's element.
Example: Ethereal Wisp. It is equally weak to Slash, Pierce, Bludgeon and Nether, a bit less to Lightning, and less again to Fire.
- With a Lightning wand listed, RynthAi wields it and casts Lightning.
- With only a Fire wand listed, it casts Fire.
- Before this release, it cast Blades with any wand. That's fixed.
Damage type set to an element
On the Monsters panel you can set a monster's damage type to a fixed element instead of Auto. RynthAi then wields your listed weapon of that element: a matching rending first, then the one in hand, then the first in the list. If none of your listed weapons has that element, it keeps the weapon in hand.
A fixed weapon on the Damage panel
On the Damage panel you can give a monster its own weapon, or set a Default weapon for every monster that has none. RynthAi uses that weapon, as long as it is in your Items list.
A wand always casts its own element
Whatever picked the wand (Auto, a Monsters rule or the Damage panel), a wand with a known element always casts that element. A wand's elemental bonus, and its rending, only work on spells of its own element.
The only exceptions:
- the wand's element isn't known yet;
- your character can't cast that element.
In those cases, RynthAi uses the Monsters rule's element, or the weakness.
Rending
A rending imbue counts as the weapon's element when nothing else is known about it. A Cold-rended wand casts Cold. When two weapons tie, a matching rending is preferred.
Only listed weapons are wielded
- RynthAi only wields weapons that are in your Items list.
- A Damage panel weapon (per monster or Default) that isn't in the list is skipped. The log notes it once, with a line ending "isn't in the Items list — not wielding it".
- When it looks for a wand, it prefers the listed wand already in your hand.
- "Quarter Staff" and other melee staves are no longer mistaken for wands.
If you list no wand at all, a mage or a buffing melee character still works. RynthAi then uses a wand from your pack (by item type, never by name). As soon as you list any wand, it stops doing that. Advanced: this is the option WieldUnlistedWandWhenNoneListed, on by default. You can turn it off from a meta with the Set RA Option (SetOpt) action, or in the profile file. There's no checkbox for it yet.
Swaps: one at a time, retries and rest
- One swap at a time. After RynthAi asks to wield a weapon, it sends nothing else until the weapon shows in your hand, the server refuses, or 2.5 seconds pass.
- Retry and rest. If a weapon fails to wield 3 times, it rests for 2 minutes, and the bot fights on with whatever is in hand. The log says so once, with a line like "didn't wield after 3 tries ... fighting with what's in hand".
No flip-flop:
- it won't swap back to the weapon it just left within 20 seconds;
- it makes at most 4 swaps a minute;
- when two choices are tied, the weapon in hand wins.
While a swap is held back, the log notes "keeping X instead of Y" with the reason, at most every 10 seconds.
- Same-kind swaps. Wand-for-wand and bow-for-bow swaps now happen too, not just melee. A wand left in your hand from earlier no longer stays there forever.
Tips
- List one wand per element you want to use. With Auto, RynthAi can only pick from what's listed.
- Want Blades on a Slash-weak monster? List a Blade wand. Otherwise RynthAi uses the best element you do have a wand for.
- Check the Items list after adding a wand. If it says Unknown, give it a few seconds to identify. If it is still wrong, click the element and pick the right one yourself.
- To hand an element back to automatic detection, remove the weapon from the Items list and add it again.
- Cleaned up your Items list? Check the Damage panel's Default weapon too. A Default pointing at a weapon you removed is now ignored, so those monsters go back to the weakness pick.
Known limits
- New behaviour. If the bot picks a weapon you don't expect, look in the log for the
[EquipDiag]lines: they say which weapon it chose and why. - A wand's element beats a stronger spell element. With only a Fire wand listed, a monster weak to Slash still gets Fire. List a Blade wand, or set the Monsters rule, if you want Blades.
- Old Items entries. Weapons added before this release keep the element they had, unless it was the old automatic "Slash". If one is wrong, pick the right one in the Items panel.
- The 20-second rule can leave the bot on its second-best wand for a little while in a mixed group. That's the price of not flip-flopping.
- A few identify requests after login, at most two per listed weapon.
- The element picker in the Items panel has no "Auto" or "Unknown" entry yet. To reset an element, remove the weapon and add it again.
- The Monsters panel's Weapon and Offhand pickers aren't used for choosing weapons in combat. Use the Damage panel instead.
